Discus Throw

The discus throw is a field event in which athletes attempt to throw a circular disc as far as possible with a controlled spinning motion. It combines strength, balance, timing, and technique, rewarding not only power but also precision and rhythm in the delivery. At Athens 1896, the event was contested under early Olympic conditions and attracted special attention because of its strong association with ancient Greek athletic tradition. Although modern technique was still developing, the essential aim was already the same: to throw the discus farther than every other competitor.
