Standing Long Jump

Discipline: Field

The standing long jump is a field event in which athletes jump for distance from a stationary position, without a running approach. It emphasizes explosive leg power, balance, and technique rather than speed on the runway.
At Paris 1900, the men’s standing long jump made its Olympic debut. It was contested as a final-only event on 16 July at Croix Catelan, with four athletes from two countries. Ray Ewry won with 3.30 metres, beginning a run of four consecutive Olympic titles in the event; Irv Baxter took silver and Émile Torchebeuf bronze.
