Discipline: Artistic Gymnastics
The team gymnastics competitions at Athens 1896 took place inside the track at the Panathenaic Stadium. In the Men’s Team Parallel Bars event, ten sets of parallel bars were available, and judges awarded points based on (1) execution, (2) rhythm, and (3) technical difficulty.
Team exercises in this edition were performed to a fixed time format, with teams required to field at least 10 men and with no upper limit on team size. As a result, team rosters could vary greatly: Germany competed with a 10-man team, while the two Greek teams were much larger (32 and 18 gymnasts). However, the names of most Greek team members have not survived in the available records, so only partial team lists can be documented today.
