Discipline: Singles
Singles is the standard tennis event format in which each competitor plays individually rather than as part of a doubles pair or team. The event is decided through direct matches, with progression and final placings determined by the tournament structure in use. In the early Olympic period, singles events could use less familiar draw arrangements than the modern bracket system, but they still centered on individual head-to-head competition.
