Two-Man Teams with Cesta

Discipline: Cesta Punta

Two-Man Teams with Cesta is a team event in Basque pelota in which pairs use a long, curved basket, known as a cesta or chistera, to catch and return the ball against the front wall. The discipline demands quick reactions, accurate placement, powerful throwing technique, and close coordination between the two partners.

At Paris 1900, the event was contested in the cesta form of Basque pelota. One match was scheduled at Rue Borghese in Neuilly-sur-Seine between the Spanish pair Francisco Villota and José de Amézola and a French pair, Maurice Durquetty and Etchegaray. The French team withdrew shortly before the contest, so the match was not played and the Spanish pair received first prize.

This remains the only Olympic edition represented by this event series.
